As project schedules and budgets continue to get shorter and tighter, automatic drawing production is a key element to increasing productivity and lowering costs. Automatic drawings generated from 3D models are created in a fraction of the time previously spent and they accurately and consistently reflect model conditions. Drawings are one of the best ways to communicate design information.

OrthoGen from 3DS Net, Inc. has been used at over 350 sites around the world during the last 16 years on thousands of projects to produce millions of drawings for all disciplines on petrochemical, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, power, offshore, mining and minerals, and shipbuilding projects.

Below are some useful features of OrthoGen and how it can help reduce time by producing drawings faster and easier than ever before.

There is no such thing as a 100% automated orthographic drawing. Different types of drawings allow different levels of automation. Pipe rack drawings can be as high as 90-95% automated but there are always notes, details and other annotations added to them as well as highlighting revisions between issues.

3DS is always working to automate more and more drawing functionality. OrthoGen version 9 has a new “Balancing” functionality that will allow it to handle even larger more complicated designs than OrthoGen (PDS®) can.

OrthoGen - SDI (Standard Drawing Interface)

OrthoGen's interface has been expanded to allow users to select from a set of predefined drawing types. Users are able to see a preview of the output as well as descriptions and tips for each drawing type. SDI comes with predefined drawing types that cover all disciplines but it is also very flexible allowing users to customize user-defined drawings or modify the delivered ones. OrthoGen SDI also provides a group of file settings which have annotation configuration options preselected to produce various drawing types. Below is more information about SDI Config interface and the capabilities it can provide.

 

  • SDI Config manipulates the settings for a set of drawing type definitions using SDI's Discipline/Drawing type interface
  • Powerful "Propagation" option allow users to make a change to one drawing type and then send the change to either another drawing type, all drawing types within a specified discipline, or to all drawing types to another discipline
  • New "Define Labels" option enables users to quickly edit ASCII files containing data base columns to be used as labels
  • New "Parameter" file for dimensions so users are able to control graphic parameters for dimensions separately from the label graphic parameters
  • New "Define Filters" option lets you add a where clause to the selection of objects to be labeled
